Well, we've set off! Our tour with Airstream's Endless Caravan is officially under way.
Out first stop was Hot Springs, AR. We visited some of our favorite spots there- Gulpha Gorge Campsite, where there is also great hiking and swimming, The Colonial for breakfast, The Kollective Coffee shop, the bath houses, and then of course the fountains where we filled up some jugs of the glorious Hot Springs water.
From there we mosied on over to Bartlesville, Oklahoma for our first house concert of the tour! We had a blast and it was a great kick off for the tour. We were absolutely delighted as we were talking to a new friend who came to the show. She said that what we're doing really inspires her- that she's a painter and has not been painting lately, but now she feels the tug at her heart to not quit her daydream- to paint again. So we sent her off with cheers of "go paint Kim!"
We did some sight-seeing in that area including visiting the real "Little House On The Prairie"- the house where Laura Ingalls Wilder's family settled and about which she wrote the book. We also drove through the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve in hopes of seeing some buffalo. Those hopes were realized- twice! This was one of my favorite moments so far. Two different times we spotted them close to the gravel road, stopped and spent quite a while watching and photographing them from the bed of the truck. The buffalo came very close to the road and there were quite a few of them. The second time we lingered until the sun set, watching and filming them graze and meander. It was a very beautiful moment. I think we all had the express feeling that this kind of experience is exactly why we're doing this.
Also, we are absolutely loving the new Airstream. All the bells and whistles make it feel totally luxurious. It's so functional, with way more storage than meets the eye- we really fit everything just fine in the space. I love that when we stop so many of the functions remain usable, making it truly a traveling home. For example, we stopped for lunch one day while we were driving and Aaron went into a burger place, and I went back into the trailer and made a tofu sandwich!
With so much beauty and excitement in just week one- I can't wait to see what the rest of the trip has in store for us!
